The Leonids

Again this bright hope flares
Consuming common senses
Meteor showers devour
Night's dark and lonely vigil

Will this time be the one
When your hand lingers; stays
Gently traces your orbit
Through my solitary atmosphere

Or again will you fall
Stretched thin by internal fires
Eaten by external wiles
Never knowing how we could shine?
